OOGA's very own Tony Schwartz!
Tony is a lifelong resident of the Mustang/Yukon/Southwest OKC area.
In his own words:
"Betty has put up with me and my 'crazy' ideas since 1985. I've owned this acreage for 42 years and have brought if from an overgrazed, scrubby, dirt patch, to relatively overgrown patchwork of different mini-forests of pines, locusts, and native trees. We've got a garden and a small vineyard. some fruit trees and berry bushes. We've raised 5 kids, chickens, and had hives of bees. We've had bees on the property for about 8 years. At first, my mentor kept hives out here and I learned by shadowing him during his inspections and observing his hives. Once I got my own, I've been learning all the ups and downs and nuts and bolts of beekeeping that you dont get familiar with until you get your hands dirty with your own stock. I'm trying to practice "treatment free" beekeeping so my challenges are a little bigger and different than those of traditional beekeepers, but most of the lessons learned apply. I started out as a little kid poking ant dens with a stick, (didn't always end well)
and now I still get to play with bugs."
Tony plans to cover basics:
Doors open at 6:30. Free and open to the public. Door prizes!
