To get us started, here is my review of a book by James B. Nardi
I ordered this book from ebay for only 15.00 including postage, and it's the best 15.00 I ever spent on a book. It's jam-packed with illustrations and explanations, and I'm quite sure that I will qualify for some kind of honorary naturalist's degree, by the time I finish.
One more thing about this one. Our library system offers it only as an e-book, not a hard copy, which seems like a real shame, for a reference book like this. So....perhaps you'd care to join me, in requesting it? The Metro library system makes it so easy! I have included a copy of my request, as an example. I have a pretty good batting average, and they often go ahead and purchase what I suggest. We consumers have more power than we think!
The library does offer another of his books, in hardback: "The Hidden Company that Trees Keep". Also just delightful. I ordered a copy of this one for myself too.
And I will tell you, it takes a heckuva book, to convince Yours Truly (aka "Miss Frugality") to pay hard cash for a book.

Here is my request for the book. The only slightly tricky thing is, you have to visit Amazon to get the publishing year and ISBN#. And I just LOVE using Amazon's huge monster-capitalism website, to promote my own little library's treasure trove, for me and everyone else. Win-win.
I figure if we gang up and a whole bunch of us request it, they can't say no, eh?
